ben, this group has been sleeping for a few months, all tuckered out from a hugely successful run of zombie exchanges. Very good group, clever and diligent. Most, or all of us agreed to start a more general monster exchange, but after toasting our brilliance we all passed out. That's pretty much where it stands.

So here's a rough start in my Monster Moly. Trying to kick off a monster parade which can hopefully march through the book. Angling towards a spirit world/ mythic monster angle. Some Trouble at Canadian Customs for Marty's Moly

Wanted to share this experience with you all in case you're also sending things internationally, or at least, into Canada.

I've just picked up Marty's sketchbook at the post office and had to pay a customs fine of $30.97 because the little green sheet on the front says the book is value $500, which I suspect is a typo simply missing a decimal point. I'm going to argue that angle anyway and send the paperwork and receipt in too the border agency to try and get the charge refunded.

While the art is certainly irreplaceable, customs views the value as my paying for something as a purchase, not as an insurance thing, so they've charged me GST & PST, the two kinds of taxes here.

Just wanted to let you all know so that for future posts you might have into Canada, it's generally best to either cite a low value or mark the item "gift - zero value" then insure it separately as a gift "x" value or get a tracking number for it. Tracking numbers are often enough.

Any rate, the Moly is here safe and is an incredible thing to behold, every contribution in there so far is stunning!

Got this book just before taking off to thailand for two weeks, then had a couple weeks of getting back into the swing of things, and more or less not making progress, so sat myself down and got some stuff going finally.
And this is what happened. Some of it a bit more grim than I expected it. A lil' more work in this book, then I'll pass it on ( I think this one's almost through everyone? )

This was fun. I used dyes to color this. First time. I've tested them before, but I really don't like them much, yet. The skin is too bright for me, but it's dye so the color should disappear in a couple of years. Then it will look right.

I think that she ended up looking a little like Drew Barrymore.

How do you do the colorific hoodoo voodoo that you do?

May I ask how you all are doing your colors?

I've tried water color / art markers - they bled too much; tried color pencils - too muted versus the yellow card stock. Tried water colors with varied success, though seems I have to really layer up goopy thick paint to get enough opacity to overcome the yellow.

Most of you all seem to easily surmount the yellow and get some sharp details in your colors. What do you use? Is it guasch paint? acryllic?

And yes, sorry, this is a huge gaping hole in my fine arts background, I don't know nearly enough about illustrative color work or techniques. Any suggestions would be deeply appreciated!

Hey Michael, I will try to get this book in the mail by tomorrow. Have fun with it. It's a beautiful thing.

The paper is so absorbent that inking the way I like wouldn't have worked, so I pasted the sketch into the book. The sketch was done by tracing an old pinup image in Adobe Illustrator. I then printed the sketch on to Moleskine Cahier paper using my inkjet printer. I used 3M Super 77 spray adhesive to mount the picture in the book. Then, I inked it. You'd never know that computer had anything to do with it.

Hey guys.
Finally I decided to use the japanese moly because in the end is the best to mix up the drawings. So I was working on this and I thought I would upload the progress even tho it is far from finished. Gotta correct a lot of the anathomy and make it more zombish overall

I was thinking about the "direction" of my book, didnt wanted to force people to draw zombie girls but I would like people to draw zombies which are doing regular stuff, integrated in the world around or just living la vida loca
I'll follow Michael Nightmare's idea and ill add more little drawings all around the book to "force" interaction

Moving forwards a bit. I missed scanning one page, but I'm essentially doing the first couple pages, but leaveing some gaps, then putting one bit of a drawing somewhere about 3/4 of the way through, then a tiny patch of something on the last page. I'll try to move onto getting some color involved soon. I've never loved how pencil crayons have come out for me, and don't have much in the way of markers, so I may bust out the watercolor pencils that I bought to experiment with a while ago and see how that treats me...

Well, I've been a bit on and off of this one, trying to find my way into it, and found I wasn't thinking enough of it as a sketchbook, so will henceforth try and handle it more naturally and cram stuff into the spaces available. Trying for something along the lines of 'i want my life back' with maybe personality sticking around, and trying to deal with the frustration involved in now being a zombie and not having things be the way you remember being.
I'm using a japanese style foldout book. not really mole-skin brand or anythoing so the paper's a bit needing getting used to for me... err, yeah, carying on...

Howdy all,

Since this is my first time doing the exchange I am unaware if there is some existing protocol. I am fine with a single or multiple zombie books droning around the mail system. My only request is that is some sort of loose time-line for the exchanges to take place. I know that a deadline is usually my primary motivator.
